Racism Is A Serious Thing, And There Is Too Much Of It

by Bob in philosophy, political, social

I constructed the above title to be search engine friendly, and this is part of my learning process in building web pages.

But, I digress.

It seems that everyday, somebody is charging someone else with being racist.  It happens so often that I am beginning to think that a lot of these people haven’t looked up the definition of racism.  Allow me to quote from Wikiepedia.

Racism is the belief that the genetic factors which constitute race are a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.[1] Racism’s effects are called “racial discrimination.” In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or receive preferential treatment.

Everybody knows that Wikipedia cannot be trusted, but I have elected to use their definition for my purposes.  I believe that racism can be confused with dislike of individuals, or even bias and prejudice in everyday social decisions.  I don’t believe that all bias and prejudice is derived from racism, even though people of different races may be involved in a situation.

I am biased against stupid people, people who smell bad, people who chain smoke, people who are drunk, and people who make loud noises through their bodily orifices.  You might even say that I am prejudiced against these people, even if they are a different color than I, or if they are from a different country, state, city, or neighborhood.  There are some people I will avoid.

Still, there are people against whom I harbor extreme prejudice, and am capable of wishing them ill tidings and bad will from the rest of the world.  I can’t always tell you who these people are, but you know them when you see them.  Henry Waxman, Barney “Rubble” Frank, and Chris Dodd fall in this group because they have contributed to the destruction of what little wealth I have managed to accumulate in a lifetime of work and saving.

I don’t like rap music, any kind of hispanic music, and I literally hate mariachi bands.  Come to think of it, I don’t like music much, anyway.  I don’t like any culture where I don’t feel comfortable.  None of this makes me racist

When you hear someone call someone else racist, you need to question them closely as to what they mean, and why they think the way they do.  Chances are, you will find the accuser basing their opinions on their own limitations and racist attitudes.

This is serious.

Would You Jump Off A Cliff…

by Bob in climate, philosophy

Wile E. Coyote tempts Roadrunner to follow him off cliff.“If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you do the same thing ?”

How many times did you hear that one as a kid?  It usually had to do with parents not wanting their children to go places deemed as unsuitable for any number of reasons.  Parents opinions were based on reason and experience, something most teenagers don’t have.

Similar to teenagers are today’s advocates of catastrophic global warming.  If you say you don’t  believe their sky-is-falling prognostications, you are called names, your reputation is questioned, and efforts are made to exile you from polite society.

We are being told that global warming will cause sea level increases of 20 feet in the next century.  People will tell you that “the weight of the evidence” proves the statement, and those who challenge this popular view are called “deniers” .  It is all an attempt to vilify intelligent and rational people so the alarmists won’t  have to defend an indefensible theory.

The interesting thing is that there is no empiracle evidence that sea levels will rise 20 feet.  This position rests on speculation derived attempts to model the earth’s climate system with models that have never made an accurate forecast.

Modeling stuff does not produce real world values.  Models produce speculative results, and depend on a large number of assumptions about real world values that cannot be measured.

So, take note of what at least one person observed about majority opinions.

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible Bertrand Russel (via iGoogle page)

I am glad to see that I am in good company when questioning a majority, unsupported opinion.

If War Is Not The Answer, What’s The Question?

by Bob in history, philosophy, political

I am not a bumper sticker person.  Putting sticky signs on my automobile’s paint is not something I do because , 1) I don’t like to advertise opinions, and 2) those things are really hard to get off the paint.

However, I have noticed something about those who do like bumper stickers on their transportation vehicle.  Many times, those who have a collection of bumper stickers on their cars are lame-brain Democrats who proudly display simple minded slogans.

For example, the other day I noticed the anti-war sticker that says, “WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER!”.  Wow, what a strong opinion.  It is just too bad that this particular slogan has no meaning, at all.

Think about it.  Who asked a question that resulted in this answer? What was this question? Have all the possible situations in the world been investigated before making a total, sweeping answer of , “WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER!”?

The first time I ever saw or heard this slogan was during the Vietnam War when I was an engineering student on a college campus.  The little war protesters would march up and down, back and forth, chanting non-sense like it was the ultimate in cool philosophy.

They would chant, “HO CHI MINH!, HO CHI MINH! HO CHI MINH!” while waiving pictures of MAO TSE TUNG.  I doubt if the little squeaks knew anything about the mass murders they supported.

I do know this.  Not once did one of those weed-puffing hippies ever, ever, apply critical thinking to that slogan, “WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER!”  These puppets were all about free love, free drugs, and free anything else.  That’s why they became Democrats.

So, when people display a sign with that idiotic slogan, “WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER!”, you not only know they are simpletons, but you have a very good idea of their political party.

Autism Study Rubish – Retracted By Lancet

by Bob in history, philosophy, political, science

There is a mystery surrounding the idea of peer reviewed scientific studies.  While the idea is meritorious, publishing in peer reviewed literature has gone from being the best way to present research to a dubious method of presenting agenda originated studies masquerading as legitimate science.

The latest example is a study published in 1998 by the formerly respectable British medical journal, Lancet.  This is the famous study that found a statistical connection between autism and the common vaccinations recieved by infants worldwide.

Since then, parents, interest groups, and almost everyone else proceeded along the path of refusing vaccinations to infants because it was erroneously thought the vaccinations caused or contributed to a child being autistic.

There is enough misinformation in this world, and Lancet should be shut down for taking 12 years to retract the bogus study.  This is not the first time Lancet has been caught presenting politically correct studies as science.

So, what happened to all that peer review that is supposed to keep these rubbish studies from being published?  It simply doesn’t happen.  In the case of climatology, the authors of various studies choose the “peers” who will review the article.  How about that?  Peer review by buddy.

I don’t know why the gross statistical errors in the autism study were not uncovered before publication in 1998, but it seems that the term, peer review, is just another expression.

Oh Noooooo, Not Another Year!

by Bob in humor, personal, philosophy, political, social

Here are my predictions for 2010.

  1. Alabama will win the NCAA Football Championship.  It they don’t, Texas will. A little prescience, here.
  2. Tiger Woods will run as a Democrat for the US Senate.  He will get extra points for employing hookers in his campaign.
  3. Harry Reid will be caught in bed with Nancy Pelosi.  OOPS!  Maybe that has already happened.
  4. Jimmy Carter will write another book, “How An Idiot From South Georgia Can Become President”.
  5. Mitt Romney will convert to atheism because a Mormon just can’t be elected to the Presidency.
  6. Robert Byrd, US Senator from West Virginia, will be found crawling on his hands and knees looking for his marbles.
  7. The New York Yankees will be in the World Series with some other team.
  8. Former Illinois Governor Blogojevich will produce pictures of Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and the Reverend Wright frolicking naked in bed.
  9. Joe Biden will have another drink.
  10. Record cold temperatures world-wide will be blamed on global warming.

Remember, you heard it here, first.

The Evil Empire Is At Hand – A Fantasy

by Bob in fiction, humor, philosophy, political, social

The Mark Of The Evil Empire

The story starts in that most evil of villages, Chicago, where three young men were born, destined to bring about the collapse of an entire nation.  These three boys, Hussein, Emanual, and Axel, were born into modest but politically active homes headed, respectively, by a child abuser, a union leader, and a dirty cop.

The dynamics of this unholy trinity evolved as individual talents blossomed. Hussein became the obvious leader.  Weathering the abuse of being forced to smoke marijuana as a six year old, Hussein became horribly lazy. This condition supported his talents of manipulating people and lying, two indispensable attributes of every socialist politician on the planet.

Plus, Hussein was a good looking kid, and didn’t even air out the bathroom after his morning-glory sessions. He knew he didn’t smell like others.

Emanual was to obtain notoriety by whacking three of his cousins as they attended Sunday School.  It seems that worshiping God was a slap in the face to a servant of Satan like Emanual.  His dark talents have become legend in his devious handling of Hussein’s opposition.  Thousands will die as Emanual helps Hussein in their pursuit of dominance.

No, I did not forget Axel.  His major talent is to lie for Hussein and convince millions of modestly intelligent people that Hussein is the second coming of our Lord.  Axel would lie when the truth would sound better, and is always supported in his lies by his brothers and sisters in evil, the Demicrotch Party.

Their financial launch pad to political dominance was delivered by the evil witch and head of Chicago’s largest house of ill-repute, Jara. She hooked-up the criminally connected boys to the evil billionaire, Jorge Morose, who funded Hussein’s campaigns, evil internet blogs, and the Demicrotch Party which he owns outright.

Evil is as evil does.  What a wonderful, magically evil team.  Dishonest politicians, ambitious witches, and bitter billionaires is all it takes to still the beautiful music of freedom and democracy in the world.

This little fantasy ends with the election of The Evil One, Hussein, to the Presidency.  His malicious goals are aided by legions of Demicrotch politicians who have hitched their wagons to Hussein’s star.  The future is not rosy, and it appears that evil will overcome the world.

Where is the one who will save us from the ignominy of universal poverty?  Who will keep our spirits up as the Evil One apologizes for imagined slights on the rest of the world?  How will we overcome the outright theft of our children’s and grandchildren’s wealth as the Evil Empire forces us into economic slavery?  Who will save us?

All we have left is hope.  Yeah, now I get it.  It is all about hope and change.

bb

Note:  This fantasy has nothing to do with the real world.  And if you believe that, you are an agent of the Evil One.  Names have been fudged to confuse members of the Democrat Party whose actions are bringing shame to an entire nation.  I have plagerized liberally in form and substance for this article, and I apologize to no one.  I lifted the pentagram graphic from Wikipedia.

Copenhagen, Carobon Dioxide, Health Care, and Tiger Woods

by Bob in climate, health, philosophy, science

I think there was a tobacco product named after Copenhagen, the famous capital of Denmark.  There is also a world-wide climate change conference there this week where plans are being made to relieve you of most of your income for the rest of your life.

So, are you an empty-headed green weenie whose only thought is to stop humankind from plundering Mother Earth?  This whole goofy movement is made up of people who hate themselves, and believe that civilization is a bad thing.  They also believe that you are not to be trusted with the responsibility of keeping the planet in a livable condition, and therefore they continue to grab for more money and power as time permits.

These people are not only crazy, they are also called environmentalists, and they all are members of the Democrat Party.  This is not a casual statistical coorelation, it is just an established fact.  All the crazies are Democrats.

Now that I have that out of my system, what in the world does this have to do with Carbon Dioxide?  Simply put, Carbon Dioxide and its reputed affect on the climate are being used to regulate the very air you breathe as of this week.  The EPA has declared this naturally occuring trace gas, and critical component of nature’s food chain, to be dangerous to your healty without the first scintilla of scientific evidence.  It is all predicated on global warming.  This is pure BS.

Then we have Health Care in the news.  It is not enough to ram down our throats an phony system of taxing carbon dioxide emissions that is without basis.   Now the Democrats have  proposed that our health care system is in crisis, and needs to be overhauled completely.  This is more BS.  We are not having a general health care crisis.  We have a problem that some people cannot afford modern health care.  This is easily fixable, and not at the expense of trashing the entire system.

Then, we have Tiger Woods, the worlds greatest golfer and the world’s highest paid athlete.  He has been an boon to the sport of golf, and a wonderful role model to black kids everywhere that they, too, can excel at what was once viewed as a white man’s game.

However, clouds are looming on the horizon for Tiger as his infidelity to his wife becomes public knowledge.  His wife,  one of the most beautiful women in the world, bashed him about with one of his own golf clubs, and I don’t think Tiger wants this part of the story to spread around the locker room.   It seems that Tiger has found some other of the world’s most beautiful women, and has sampled their beauty without his jealous wife’s knowledge.  Bad move, Tiger!

The question of the day is, would I rather be Tiger Woods with his set of “problems”, or do I want to continue to be just me, a poor slob who is being taken to the cleaners by President Obama and the New World Order of Environmental Idiots?

Decisions!  Decisions!  Decisions!

Legends vs Speculation – Or Why You Can’t Trust Snopes.com

by Bob in history, philosophy, political

Here is a legend about the great General Pershing that recently came to my attention.   It makes a great story whether it is true or not.

persning

To confirm my knowledge of General Pershing being the only man in the history of the nation that held the rank of General of the Armies, and was the only General in United States history to wear five stars to signify his unique rank, I embarked on an internet search for information.  I was wrong about the five stars thing, and I did not rely on Wikipedia or Snopes.com for my information. I went to a primary source, and that is the US Army.

There are reasons to NOT use Wikipedia for important information.  ANYBODY can make entries or corrections on any subject in Wikipedia, and some of the information is tinged with political agendas, like anything on global warming.

Snopes.com used to be considered an infallible source of infomation with which to debunk urban legends and everyday stories.  In the case of the Pershing legend (notice that I don’t necessarily consider it as fact) Snopes.com first notes that the origin of the legend (or story) is undetermined.  Then the authors of the article launch into a drawn out inspection of articles and other stories trying to show that not all Muslims are terrorists, and we should consider Islam as the religion of peace.  I have reserved the link for you.

Snopes.com punishes a lot of electrons in a rather long article trying to show that Pershing probably did not do the deed, and that the legend may not have happened.  Some people will read this article and go away with the belief that the Pershing pig legend was fabricated, and that all Muslims are good.  Rest assured that this is most likely HORSE APPLES!

As Snopes.com initially notes, the origins of the legend are undetermined, as is the validity of the story.  Then, they go on trying to convince you otherwise.

We must remember that General Pershing was of a generation used to hard times and hard punishment to soldiers and enemies regardless of his personal leanings.  If he did not do the deed, it is quite possible that someone reporting to him did.  Just because he does not mention it in his papers means nothing at all.  Most likely, something of the sort happened and, like most legends, grew more exaggerated with time.

Also, the purveyors of political correctness at Snopes.com go a long way in trying to protect Islam and Muslims from being stereotyped as terrorists.  There is a grain of truth in what they say, but I disagree because of the following.

  • Most Terrorists Are Muslim
  • Not all Muslims are Terrorists
  • There is a 99% probability that any mass killing in the world is done by Muslim terrorists

I have already blogged about how I like and respect my Muslim acquaintances as fellow humans and citizens.  I am not automatically prejudiced, nor do I automatically assume the benevolence of any religion that aspires to kill me, my family, and my nation because we are Christians.

Since the Ft. Hood killings by a Muslim terrorist who happened to be in the uniform of a United States Major, it is time to question the intent of anyone of that religion.

Snopes.com presents SPECULATION instead of facts.  They serve little purpose, and are not relevant in the realm of honest brokers of information in their propagation of cowardly and politically correct junk.

Why Question Everything?

by Bob in philosophy, science

Great question!  I believe that pretty much everything should be questioned including the Health Care Destruction Bill, Global Warming, Cap and Trade legislation and many other issues.  To buttress my argument on this point, I go to no other than one of the greatest Greek philosophers to have ever lived.

Socrates.

I viewed this video on the life of Socrates, the Greek philosopher, and found it very interesting.  It is worth a view to anyone interested in why we should not take the word of anyone in power without question.

The main stream media continually delivers information to the general population that the people in this nation in authority (President, Members of Congress) know what is the best for the nation.  Not once does the main stream media perform the natural philosophical function of questioning the originators of this information, nor do they have the knowledge or courage to do so.

I can expound much more on this theme, but for the moment it is important that people understand that it is not only intellectually necessary to questions ideas, programs, and information issuing from those in authority, but this method should be extended to all corners of life.

My position is that if you don’t question what is going on, you are not a thinking person.
