Spam On Spurious Missives

by Bob in housekeeping

It has finally gotten to me.  I don’t know where the stuff comes from, but it comes in flocks, bushels, loads, and tons from everywhere.  It shows up in the comments to be moderated, and is a big pain to rake through every day.

Up until now, I have just been erasing the spam, and maybe some regular comments, too.

To help with the problem, there is now a “captcha” feature on the comment page.  When you want to enter a comment, you have to type the letters from one of those rediculous panels.  It does, however, help with the spam because most of it is generated with machines with the URL’s and email addresses they have read.

The captcha form is not machine readable, and should help with the spam problem.

Thanks for your understanding.

Massage Therapist – “Al Gore Touched Me!”

by Bob in Current Events, housekeeping

Sickening, just sickening.  I can’t imagine anybody being overjoyed with Al Gore touching them.

Al’s little tryst apparently resulted in evidence of the “blue dress” variety, but the bashful mobile massage therapist waited three years before trying to get the police to look at the evidence of the previously reported crime.  The cops wouldn’t look at her clothes.  I wouldn’t touch them, either if there was supposed to be a Big Al DNA sample soaked into the fibers.  Euwww…

Tipper apparently was tipped off about Al’s lack of fealty, and she and Big Al are now going through a divorce.  I really hate to see the perfect couple split up, but Big Al’s karma has been sluffing off for quite a while, now.

Tough breaks, Al.

UPDATE:  Apparently, there is not DNA evidence on the massage therapists pants, but I don’t understand what other evidence would be there.  At any rate, if it is something Al Gore handled when naked, I still wouldn’t touch them.

Miss Universe – Tough Decision

by Bob in housekeeping, science

I was lucky enough tonight to have accidently surfed onto the Miss Universe contest.  Anticipating a great show of woman-hood in skimpy bikinis, I was not disappointed.  The crowd of women in the contest seemed to be all beautiful and shapely.

WOW!

Here’s the winner, Miss Venezuela. I am sure that old communist, Hugo Chavez, is very proud.

miss_venezuala

How do the judges make a decision when ALL the contestants are drop-dead good looking, shapely, and just too great to be rejected for any reason?

The only ugly thing in this picture is the rap artist who regularly grabbed his penis during his act.  I can understand the desire, but, the act was pretty shabby.

Anyway, the spectacle is entertaining and educational from a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and multi-national point of view, something dirty old men like me can appreciate.

Welcome To Spurious Missives – 2nd Edition

by Bob in housekeeping, personal

If this is the first time you have seen this blog, let me say thank you for dropping in.  If you are a regular reader and went to the old site first, thanks for making the transition to the new site.  If you add this one to your favorites, now, it will make it easer tomorrow when you have run out of things to do, or are just wondering what spurious thoughts are bubbling up in my brain, today.

I am using GoDaddy for my hosting and domain name provider.  The really big change is a move to WordPress, the dominant weblog program in use today. WordPress is an open source program, and is free to the public.  Literally hundreds of programmers around the world donate time and energy to the project. Open Source is a phenomenon in the current computer world whose advocates feel that software should be free.  That’s free in the sense of freedom to modify, improve, and use without being subject to unreasonable restrictions. WordPress is also free, as in “Free Beer”!  Nice, huh?

Generally, I will post all comments, but they are all moderated to keep down spam. If you don’t understand how spam can affect a blog, just think “mailbox flooded with Viagra ads”.  That’s the kind of stuff you see, and even with effective spam filters employed, there is always the need to manually weed out the bad stuff.

Once again, thanks for dropping in. I am looking forward to sharing my opinions, facts, and prognostications with you.

Installing WordPress

by Bob in housekeeping

I am not sure how this is going to work out, but, bear with me and I will make this site more palatable than before. I need to install a new theme, and make some other improvements to the blog.

Thanks for your patience.

WordPress Blogging

by Bob in housekeeping

I am just learning how to use this new software, and it will be trying.  There are some things I like about WordPress, and there are some things I don’t like.  It will take a little time for me to get things set-up the way I like.

Thanks for your patience.
