Artificial Intelligence

by Bob in political, science, social

Keanu Reeves in The Matrix

One of the favorite science fiction themes is the idea that a person, today, is just the realization of a computer program.  The person or being that did the programming did it long ago.  The result might be a world as in the movie, The Matrix.

In the Matrix people worked at their jobs in modern looking buildings doing neat looking things.

But, there were a group of people that knew how to escape that paradigm.   Once outside the Matrix, the world looked like a bombed-out Detroit.

Everything was imaginary and programmed.  Humans were cloned in a giant “hatchery”, or something like that.

This idea can get really scary, especially if you have done any computer programming with one of the modern object oriented languages.

In object oriented programming you start by creating “classes”.  Let’s create an animal class, and from that evolve a human class that inherits certain biological traits that all animals share.  Then, we can proclaim an object of the people class as one instance of a person, like an Al Gore.  There would also be Bob’s, Ronald’s, Donald’s, Jim’s, and even females like Marilyn Monroe, etc.

From the basic class idea we can program into people the way they think and react in logical terms, and some hard-wired illogical contrary traits.  This way you could create a smart person, and have them do stupid things like Barack Obama.

Suddenly, fiction makes as much sense as reality.

Is intelligence a natural occurrence or a a programmed artificial property?

My contention is that whatever the answer is, we have artificial intelligence in the White House.  It is time to click on the “Interrupt” button to send Barack Obama and his Marxist programmed minions to the trash bin.

Stuck On Stupid!

by Bob in political, social

My wife hates it when I do this, accusing somebody of being stupid.  But I think I am justified by making the observation that the whole darned world has gone over the brink.

In particular, the whole Obama Administration is stuck on stupid.  Here are a few examples.

  • Continued support for a failed health care bill.  Stupid!
  • The EPA finding that carbon dioxide is a pollutant.  Stupid!
  • The Obama Administration’s continued backing of Cap & Trade.  Stupid!
  • Funding public projects under the guise of job creation. Stupid!
  • Trying terrorists like they were US citizens with commensurate rights.  Stupid!
  • Continuing along the path of closing the prison at Guantanamo.  Stupid!
  • Cutting funding of the European ballistic missile shield.  Stupid!

I guess you get the idea.  The Obama Administration has been screwing up by the numbers, and it looks like there is no end to the charade going on in Washington.

Y’all have a good day.

Obama’s Age Of Doo-Doo Economics

by Bob in economics, history, political

Read the walls within. See where Obama his economics ken.

Yep.  Obama’s economic stimulus programs have turned into crap.

The Obamahoods insist on re-running demonstrably failed Keynesian deficit spending schemes, over, and over, and over, and over.  FDR was the first to try deficit spending as a cure-all for the Great Depression.  After years of deficit spending, dam building, and road grading, the economy was not measurably better off.  We all like to think that it was, but, history shows differently.

Instead, it took the impetus of a World War to put everybody in the nation to work producing weapons for the diminishing free world.  Not only did World War II salvage the USA from the Great Depression, but, the USA salvaged freedom and democracy from extinction.  The event that jump-started the US economy was a great war, not targeted spending.

Presidents Kennedy and Reagan chose to cut overall taxes to spur economic activity, and it worked.  It worked so good that the liberal whiners dubbed the 1980′s (The Reagan Years) as the age of indulgence and excess.  Hey, just give me some more of those sinful excesses.

Cutting taxes is an immediate release of money into the economy, resulting in almost instantaneous results.  Millions of small businesses who save money to pay taxes quarterly have the opportunity to IMMEDIATELY make capital investments in their businesses, hire people, letting the market economy to do what it does best.  The market oriented economy creates wealth.

Why do the Democrats not get this?

It gets real simple, real quick.

The Demo’s don’t want to reduce taxes because it diminishes the power and role of government, therefore, the authority of Democrats in your life.  It’s all about power and control.

When presidential candidate  George H. W. Bush was campaigning against Ronald Reagan, Bush dubbed supply-side economics as Voo-Doo Economics.  The name stuck, even though Reagan’s signature economic success was based on cutting taxes, increasing overall Federal revenues.

Voo-Doo Economics works.  Obama’s Doo-Doo Economics don’t.

Autism Study Rubish – Retracted By Lancet

by Bob in history, philosophy, political, science

There is a mystery surrounding the idea of peer reviewed scientific studies.  While the idea is meritorious, publishing in peer reviewed literature has gone from being the best way to present research to a dubious method of presenting agenda originated studies masquerading as legitimate science.

The latest example is a study published in 1998 by the formerly respectable British medical journal, Lancet.  This is the famous study that found a statistical connection between autism and the common vaccinations recieved by infants worldwide.

Since then, parents, interest groups, and almost everyone else proceeded along the path of refusing vaccinations to infants because it was erroneously thought the vaccinations caused or contributed to a child being autistic.

There is enough misinformation in this world, and Lancet should be shut down for taking 12 years to retract the bogus study.  This is not the first time Lancet has been caught presenting politically correct studies as science.

So, what happened to all that peer review that is supposed to keep these rubbish studies from being published?  It simply doesn’t happen.  In the case of climatology, the authors of various studies choose the “peers” who will review the article.  How about that?  Peer review by buddy.

I don’t know why the gross statistical errors in the autism study were not uncovered before publication in 1998, but it seems that the term, peer review, is just another expression.
